Abstract

AbstractOverview

AgroRes is an ambitious research and innovation program with duration 2.5 years that aims to increase the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in greenhouse units.

The main idea of AgroRes is to optimize the development of Organic and Printed Photovoltaic (OPV) devices, weight of 0.5Kg/m2 with high optical transparency in the visible spectrum, which will be used for the manufacturing of a hybrid system providing energy autonomy in greenhouses at remote areas.

The innovation of the project lies in the fact that it combines the use of two RES in the innovative hybrid system, such as Organic and Printed Semi-transparent Photovoltaics (H-OPVs) and Wind Turbines, which will be supported by a Power Generator in the case of additional energy demand. The produced energy will be stored in battery packs and will cover all the load of the installed power of a Hydroponic Mediterranean Greenhouse.

The novelty of AgroRes for the construction of “Energy Autonomous Greenhouses” will significantly reduce production costs in the primary sector, will create new jobs, a better environment and strong entrepreneurship in the agrifood sector and emerging technologies.

Within the project will be constructed a pilot “Energy Autonomous Greenhouse ” of 200 m2 with hydroponic cultivation, which will be studied in terms of the produced energy on the basis of local meteorological conditions and energy autonomy in relation to the consumption of the greenhouse subsystems during the four seasons of a year. Finally, will be studied also the effect of Semi-transparent OPVs on the plants’ cultivation and production and on the microclimate of the greenhouse, with wireless transmission of the recorded data through the telecommunication network.
